Software Developer Sr Principal

Role overview Provide senior technical direction and full-stack Java engineering for a large healthcare benefits application that helps determine when other insurance should pay before public coverage. The role owns architecture and design standards, guides modernization toward service-based and cloud-ready systems, and contributes hands-on code and delivery oversight. It also includes mentoring developers and resolving complex technical or production issues.

Responsibilities - Set architecture and design standards, assess technology choices, and document key decisions and trade-offs. - Lead technical direction for major projects, including design and code reviews, and translate business needs into secure, scalable solutions. - Design, build, and maintain Java applications and RESTful services; modernize legacy components using Spring Boot and microservices. - Partner with analysts, engineers, and program stakeholders to enhance the application and maintain quality through the development lifecycle. - Use AI-assisted development tools where appropriate to support coding, testing, and documentation. - Mentor less experienced developers and promote sound practices for code quality, testing, and secure development.

Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field, or equivalent education, training, or work experience. - At least 10 years of object-oriented development, Java enterprise or web applications, and SQL; experience with Java web technologies is expected. - At least 5 years with Spring Boot and REST API design, and 5 years developing microservices. - At least 3 years in a technical lead or architecture role with design authority and team oversight. - Full-stack Java experience, knowledge of object design and patterns, and practical use of Git-based collaboration and code review. - Strong written and verbal communication; experience with Agile work tracking and AI-assisted development tools.

Nice to have Experience with Angular or Node.js, PostgreSQL, caching technologies, and CI/CD pipelines is beneficial. Prior experience with Medicare coordination-of-benefits programs or related government contracts is strongly preferred.
