Remote job
AI Engineer, Agents & Search
Job details
About this role
Role overview A full-time, direct-hire AI Engineering role building production agent systems for a software platform used in healthcare staffing. The work centers on agent orchestration, search, retrieval, evaluation, and the backend systems that let agents call tools, hold state, and complete multi-step recruiting workflows reliably. The team values engineers who can take systems from implementation through production operation and use repeatable evaluations to prove improvements.
Responsibilities - Build and improve production LLM agents along with the orchestration layer that controls their execution. - Design tool-calling systems, including interfaces, input validation, error handling, and recovery paths. - Develop retrieval pipelines that combine structured filters, keyword search, embeddings, and reranking. - Construct repeatable evaluations and experiments that measure agent behavior, retrieval quality, and regressions. - Implement durable, asynchronous workflows capable of handling retries, interruptions, and long-running tasks. - Investigate production failures and improve reliability, latency, cost, and observability across AI features used in real recruiting workflows.
Requirements - Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating LLM agent systems in production. - Strong backend engineering fundamentals, with proficiency in TypeScript or an equivalent server-side language. - Practical experience designing agent orchestration or harnesses, covering execution control, state management, and tool use. - Familiarity with RAG or search systems and how filtering, keyword retrieval, embeddings, and reranking combine. - Track record of building repeatable evaluations and using them to compare approaches and identify meaningful gains. - Experience with asynchronous processing and reliable workflow execution, plus the ability to articulate trade-offs behind architectural choices.
Nice to have - Background in healthcare, staffing, recruiting technology, or related workflows. - Staff-level technical ownership spanning architecture, delivery, and production operation. - Experience moving the needle on both retrieval quality and downstream agent task completion.
Benefits and work setup - Remote role open to candidates in the United States or Latin America. - US base compensation of $170,000–$230,000+ annually, with flexibility toward the higher end for staff-level candidates; a separate regional range applies for LATAM hires and is discussed during recruiting. - Target start before December.
