Senior Web Engineer

Role overview This contract, fully remote role calls for a senior web engineer who specializes in the WordPress ecosystem and can architect the foundational systems behind large-scale digital experiences. The position focuses on modern PHP, sophisticated Gutenberg block development in React.js, and the performance and caching work that keeps high-traffic sites resilient. You will set the back-end technical vision for major projects and leave a lasting imprint through both shipped systems and the patterns you establish for other engineers.

Responsibilities - Architect enterprise-level WordPress solutions, including high-performance plugins, themes, and Gutenberg blocks built in React.js. - Define the back-end technical strategy for large-scale projects, making decisions on architecture, performance, and scalability. - Lead expert code reviews that champion code quality, security, and maintainability across the team. - Diagnose and resolve complex performance and caching challenges, turning slow or brittle systems into resilient platforms. - Mentor engineers through your code, establishing WordPress patterns and best practices adopted beyond a single engagement.

Requirements - Expert-level mastery of modern PHP and the Gutenberg ecosystem, with a portfolio of real-world WordPress code. - Strong Git workflow experience and proven ability to debug and optimize complex systems. - Comfort leading technical discussions with clients and translating business needs into a clear technical vision. - Demonstrated success building scalable, secure, and maintainable back-end architectures. - Self-direction and collaboration skills suited to a remote, distributed team.
