Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead a seven-person engineering team building quality, test-data, and delivery tooling for complex public-sector digital services. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with team development and coordination across client stakeholders and multiple external vendors. You’ll improve how teams create test scenarios, identify release problems, and move software through secure, reliable delivery pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team through delegation and direct contribution, setting technical direction and supporting delivery across the stack. - Design and maintain end-to-end UI and API automation using Playwright and TypeScript across multiple product areas. - Build Python tools and REST API integrations to generate synthetic applicant data and reduce manual test setup. - Create React and TypeScript interfaces that let stakeholders and vendor teams request test scenarios and track pipeline status. - Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines with quality checks and feature-based promotion practices. - Coordinate failure triage across vendors, review code, mentor engineers, and support infrastructure and security controls in regulated government environments.
Requirements
- At least 3 years leading software teams or managing personnel, and 5 or more years developing full-stack applications and tools with TypeScript and Python. - Practical experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines and using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform. - Experience designing systems that integrate with external services, databases, and third-party APIs. - Strong troubleshooting skills for distributed systems and cross-vendor failures, plus experience estimating work and communicating technical updates to clients. - U.S. work authorization without current or future visa sponsorship; ability to meet applicable government contract requirements.
Nice to have
- Experience with federal digital services or civic technology, AWS GovCloud, FedRAMP, or observability tools such as Datadog. - Experience building synthetic test-data generators or complex mock services for enterprise integrations. - Government background checks or security clearances may apply depending on the contract.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote for employees based in the continental United States; some projects may involve travel about once or twice a year. - The work environment emphasizes sustainable hours, modern engineering tools, and practical use of AI in workflows.
