National Technical Support Specialist - Power Generation

Role overview

This role provides nationwide technical leadership for a rental fleet of power generation equipment, ranging from 20kW portable units to multi-megawatt diesel, natural gas, and hybrid systems. The specialist acts as a subject matter expert supporting field service technicians, partnering with sales on complex customer solutions, and ensuring successful deployments across commercial, industrial, utility, and data center markets. The position is fully remote with significant travel.

Responsibilities

- Serve as the technical lead for generator systems, supporting diagnostics, repairs, and commissioning across the country. - Provide pre- and post-sale technical support to internal sales teams by joining customer consultations and project planning meetings. - Participate in site walks and pre-job assessments to specify correct equipment configuration and distribution. - Lead complex or high-profile deployments, training operations and service personnel on procedures, maintenance, and troubleshooting. - Collaborate with OEMs and vendors on escalated support and warranty cases, and stay current on power generation technology trends.

Requirements

- Deep understanding of generator systems including diesel and gas engines, alternators, controllers, and transfer switches. - Strong knowledge of AC power systems, three-phase distribution, grounding and bonding, and voltage configurations such as 208V and 480V. - Proven experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and field diagnostics, plus the ability to read electrical schematics, one-lines, and control logic diagrams. - Comfortable working independently in a travel-heavy, fast-paced environment with strong communication and customer support skills. - High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or an associate's degree in electrical engineering or power systems preferred. - Minimum seven years of experience in power systems, load bank application, generator commissioning, or related roles; technical sales support or project engineering experience preferred.

- Familiarity with testing standards such as IEEE 115, NFPA 110, or utility-specific commissioning practices.
