Role overview
Take ownership of backend-heavy engineering work for a travel and spend platform serving business users. The role centers on designing new services, modernizing legacy systems, delivering production-ready software, and working autonomously across technical and non-technical teams in an environment that makes substantial use of AI-assisted development.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement greenfield backend services and replace legacy functionality with modern microservices. - Establish strong automated test coverage and production-grade observability for systems you build and maintain. - Work with product managers and engineering teams to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions. - Drive projects independently by clarifying scope, identifying blockers, communicating progress, and carrying work through delivery. - Use AI coding tools as a primary development interface while applying sound engineering judgment and reviewing generated output carefully.
Requirements
- Demonstrated fluency with AI-assisted software development tools such as Claude, Cursor, or comparable systems. - Strong system-design skills, including the ability to explain architectural decisions, infrastructure considerations, and trade-offs. - A record of delivering complex systems rather than only isolated features. - Self-directed working habits and comfort working through ambiguity, shifting priorities, and loosely scoped cross-team requests. - Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical partners.
Nice to have
- Experience with Java or Kotlin, SQL and relational databases, Terraform, Datadog, or Splunk.
Benefits and work setup
- Full-time contractor opportunity for candidates located in Latin America. - Base pay range of $75,000–$120,000 USD, with equity and possible bonus eligibility depending on role and location. - Work arrangements may be remote or based around a hybrid hub; available perks can vary by employment type and location.
