About this role
Role overview
Join one of several backend engineering teams building and operating highly available systems, public-facing APIs, and services that support a large online marketplace. The work combines architecture and implementation with cross-functional collaboration, technical ownership, and measurable improvements to performance, efficiency, security, and customer experience. Openings may be aligned with either real-time pricing systems or identity and access management.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs with strong reliability, security, and performance characteristics. - Build consumer-grade APIs and manage their lifecycle, including versioning, deprecation, compatibility, and consumption-based rate limiting. - Partner with product, data-science, and other engineering teams to deliver cohesive customer and platform experiences. - Lead initiatives that improve operational efficiency, system performance, and customer outcomes. - Apply sound software-design and Domain-Driven Design principles to complex distributed systems. - Depending on team placement, develop real-time pricing systems or secure authentication and authorization integrations.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and operating highly available distributed systems. - Proven experience building and evolving public-facing APIs, including lifecycle management and traffic controls. - Strong understanding of software design, scalability, architecture, and production reliability. - Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating across disciplines, and taking ownership of important technical outcomes. - Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, Kotlin, or comparable modern backend languages is useful. - AWS experience is useful, as is familiarity with Domain-Driven Design.
Nice to have
- For pricing-oriented work: experience with real-time decision systems, auction-based pricing, machine-learning-informed models, or customer segmentation. - For identity-oriented work: experience with authentication, authorization, identity providers, login systems, or enterprise identity integrations.
Benefits and work setup
- Base pay range of $135,200–$187,000 USD, with equity for employees; some roles may also include an annual bonus. - Hybrid-hub model supporting office-based or fully remote work depending on role and location. - Benefits and perks may vary by employment type and location.
