Principal Assessment Designer

Role overview Lead the design of research-aligned assessments for digital learning. As a senior subject matter expert, guide assessment strategy across product, research, and engineering teams, mentor colleagues, and help ensure assessment experiences are rigorous, useful, and responsive to learner needs.

Responsibilities - Oversee the design of assessment products, programs, and experiences in collaboration with product, research, and engineering teams. - Translate educational research, evidence-centered design, measurement science, and relevant policy into practical frameworks and design guidance. - Help teams establish logic models, evidence bases, and assessment design approaches, while mentoring colleagues and promoting sound practice. - Engage external advisory groups and participate in or lead industry, academic, and practitioner gatherings. - Contribute assessment expertise to organizational communications and product marketing. - Use data and feedback to improve assessment quality and advance digital assessment experiences.

Requirements - Master’s or doctoral degree in measurement sciences, education, instructional design, or a related area, or equivalent experience. - At least seven years of experience in assessment design or a related field. - Expertise in assessment design principles and measurement science. - Experience leading complex projects, influencing cross-functional teams, and coaching colleagues. - Experience presenting at or participating in external councils or convenings. - Strong strategic thinking, communication, and data-informed decision making, with a focus on learning outcomes. - Familiarity with digital learning tools and commitment to equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive assessment.
