Role overview A Principal Software Development Engineer is needed to lead the technical architecture of an ultra-low-latency, high-throughput execution services platform that powers trading across equities, options, mutual funds, and other asset classes. The position sits within a global fintech infrastructure organization and focuses on re-engineering a mission-critical trading stack to be industrial-grade.
Responsibilities - Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of high-performance, low-latency brokerage systems using Java and Golang - Assess software and database health, diagnosing bottlenecks and proposing technology improvements - Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs and microservices - Partner with Broker-Dealer Operations to support and enhance backend trading systems across multiple asset classes - Define specifications, build components, modify the existing stack, and prepare test data and functional specs - Analyze service and application performance using appropriate languages, profiling tools, and techniques - Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines - Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and architectural guidance to engineers across the team
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience - 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong Java expertise - Solid understanding of Test-Driven Development and writing effective unit and integration tests - Strong grasp of REST APIs, microservices, and highly available, scalable systems
Nice to have - Background working with market data feeds, exchange connectivity, or low-latency messaging - Experience with broker-dealer operations, clearing, or settlement workflows - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, scripting, and system-integration troubleshooting
