About this role
Role overview Own backend integrations and payment flows for a checkout platform that coordinates purchases across multiple merchants. You’ll build the connections and reliability safeguards that keep orders and payment status accurate through routine processing, provider failures, and changing delivery plans.
Responsibilities - Design payment flows that authorize and capture funds for purchases involving one or more merchants. - Support refunds, partial refunds, cancellations, and split shipments while preserving correct order state and avoiding duplicate charges. - Build recovery for timeouts, rejected orders, duplicate or delayed webhooks, and safe retries. - Integrate commerce providers and merchant platforms through APIs and webhooks; manage sandbox testing and production launches. - Define API contracts, test fixtures, and reconciliation processes so client applications can trust order and payment status. - Write backend services with observability, idempotency, and audit trails, coordinating with mobile and product colleagues.
Requirements - Several years of experience shipping production backend APIs. - Practical experience with webhooks, asynchronous jobs, and idempotent payment or order processing. - Experience with checkout or payments beyond subscriptions, including authorization, capture, refunds, and failure recovery. - Ability to work through provider documentation, sandbox certification, and production incidents. - Clear written English for API documentation, runbooks, and remote team communication.
Nice to have - Experience with multi-merchant marketplaces, aggregators, or universal checkout. - Exposure to payments or commerce providers in the Gulf region. - Experience building AI agents that use commerce or messaging APIs. - Familiarity with Python, FastAPI, Docker, or GitHub Actions.
Benefits and work setup Full-time role, remote or UAE-based, with regular overlap with UAE working hours. The engineer works closely with technical and product leadership and the iOS developer.
