Principal Data Engineer, Analytics

Role overview A Principal Data Engineer is needed to build and scale analytical data products for a global B2B financial technology platform that delivers investing and trading experiences through an API-based system. The role blends hands-on coding (roughly 60–70% of the time) with architectural leadership, shaping the data ecosystem that supports both internal teams and external partners across multiple asset classes.

Responsibilities - Own the end-to-end lifecycle of analytics data products, from concept through production and ongoing maintenance - Design and code complex dbt models and transformations for high-volume financial datasets such as trades, ledgers, and settlement records - Write production-grade Python for advanced data processing, anomaly detection, and custom orchestration - Tackle the hardest query-performance problems by refactoring legacy code and optimizing incremental loads - Build automated testing and validation suites using dbt tests and Python to enforce data quality as code - Partner with Product, Finance, Operations, Risk, and Trading to translate domain requirements into robust data products - Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and architectural guidance

Requirements - 8+ years of professional experience in analytics engineering or data engineering - Expert-level SQL skills, including optimization of complex queries at scale - Advanced Python proficiency for data manipulation using Pandas, Polars, or Spark, and for interacting with APIs or AWS services - Hands-on experience with Databricks and dbt in production environments

Nice to have - Familiarity with CI/CD for data using Git and dbt Cloud - Experience designing systems that treat data as software, with version control and testing discipline - Curiosity about applying emerging AI tools to improve signal quality and team velocity
