Staff Engineer (100% Remote within Poland)
Job details
About this role
Role overview A Staff Engineer will set technical direction for a large patient-facing marketplace where people find clinicians, compare profiles, and book appointments. The platform is being moved incrementally from a long-running PHP monolith into a monorepo organized around API and React vertical slices. The goal is to make this migration safer while creating well-defined capabilities that other products can use through stable contracts.
Responsibilities - Define and communicate a practical migration roadmap, including domain sequencing, completion criteria, and a path to make the monorepo authoritative for bookings. - Lead the safe decomposition of a production monolith, addressing service boundaries, data movement, compatibility, and integration risks. - Establish versioned interfaces for marketplace capabilities so other systems can consume them without one-off dependencies. - Direct AI coding agents to prototype complex migration and integration work, while owning architecture, review, correctness, and security. - Improve AI-assisted development practices for legacy analysis, contract generation, adapters, tests, and parity between old and new implementations. - Partner with product and engineering leaders, unblock cross-team work, mentor senior engineers, and share standards across the staff-level community.
Requirements - Experience setting technical direction across multiple teams, with decisions proven in production. - Hands-on experience breaking apart a large live legacy system, including strangler migrations, anti-corruption layers, data migration, and dual-write tradeoffs. - Strong distributed-systems and backend architecture skills, and comfort working across multiple languages and technologies. - Practical experience using AI tools to accelerate software development, including directing coding agents while maintaining design, quality, and security. - Interest in mentoring engineers and raising the quality of technical decision-making. - Fluent English.
Nice to have - Work on two-sided marketplaces, search and discovery, or booking and scheduling products. - Experience with large monorepos, including build systems, code ownership, and shared conventions. - Experience making product capabilities available to AI agents, or working in healthcare or another privacy-sensitive field.
Benefits and work setup - Remote or hybrid work within Poland, with a Warsaw hub, and flexible working hours. - Paid time off varies by contract (20 or 26 days), plus a paid day off for a birthday or work anniversary. - Private healthcare, family healthcare support, sports-facility co-funding, mental wellness support, and English and Spanish classes are listed.
