Remote job
Compiled Health - Member of Technical Staff, Compiler (Remote)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Research how AI systems can reliably transform clinical standards into precise, executable guidance, then bring the strongest methods into a clinical compiler used in public healthcare. The role combines experimentation with language models and the design of representations, benchmarks, and deterministic checks so clinical logic remains traceable and inspectable.
Responsibilities - Build document-processing pipelines that parse clinical standards, transform their content, and validate resulting modules. - Design a representation for guideline logic, including recommendations, exclusions, and precedence. - Compare model approaches, including open and closed models, fine-tuning, and constrained decoding. - Create benchmarks and adversarial cases to assess fidelity to sources, logical completeness, and correctness of recommendations; analyze errors. - Develop deterministic checks using static analysis, constraint solving, or formal methods to identify ambiguity, contradictions, and missing source guidance. - Work with clinicians who review outputs, using model failures to shape new experiments and system improvements.
Requirements - At least 3 years of research or industry experience, or be in the final year of a PhD or completing a postdoctoral appointment. - Strong Python skills and experience with PyTorch and transformer-based language models. - Ability to conduct rigorous experiments and evaluate model outputs against clinical sources. - Based in the US or Canada; generally requires US citizenship or permanent residency, with possible visa exceptions for candidates from frontier research labs.
Nice to have - Publications in clinical AI are strongly preferred. - Experience with static analysis, SMT/SAT solvers, FHIR, or HL7 v2.
Benefits and work setup - Remote within the US or Canada, with team offsites several times a year. - Base salary of $250,000–$400,000 plus equity. The cash-to-equity mix is flexible; health, dental, vision, flexible paid time off, and paid parental leave are included.
