Remote Senior DevOps / Backend Engineer

Role overview A senior engineering role focused on building, scaling, and operating GraphQL API services that power a headless commerce platform serving developers building tailored e-commerce experiences. The position emphasizes distributed systems thinking, cloud infrastructure ownership, and a relentless pursuit of service availability, performance, and global scalability. Work is remote-first, with the option to collaborate on-site with a core team based in Norway.

Responsibilities - Architect and develop distributed backend services that scale horizontally across regions while maintaining tight performance budgets. - Design, evolve, and operate GraphQL APIs that integrate with a product information and commerce engine. - Own AWS infrastructure using Terraform, including networking, compute, and managed services to keep deployments reproducible. - Build and refine CI/CD pipelines supporting continuous integration and test-driven development practices. - Manage data layers and async workloads, ensuring reliability across MongoDB Atlas and related stores. - Collaborate on edge logic using Cloudflare Workers to push performance closer to end users.

Requirements - Senior-level experience designing distributed, asynchronous software at scale. - Strong grasp of API design principles, ideally with production GraphQL exposure. - Production experience with Node.js and TypeScript, plus comfort working in cloud environments on AWS. - Hands-on skills with infrastructure-as-code, particularly Terraform, and CI/CD automation. - Understanding of the full stack required to ship modern, scalable web applications. - Background in software engineering or a related field, such as a bachelor's or master's degree.

Nice to have - Curiosity about emerging runtimes like Bun and an appetite for experimenting with newer tooling. - A mindset that treats milliseconds as a first-class concern.
