Systems Engineer II (Remote)

Role overview Help engineer and maintain production systems across a large internal data center environment. The work combines Linux administration, server and virtualization operations, automation, and troubleshooting at scale, with participation in an on-call rotation and collaboration across a distributed engineering team.

Responsibilities - Assess complex systems architecture and recommend improvements to production environments. - Administer Linux across large fleets of physical servers and virtual machines, and troubleshoot server hardware issues. - Support large-scale deployment and management of servers and applications in data centers. - Write and maintain scripts, tools, frameworks, dashboards, and alerts to automate operations. - Contribute to production support through a shared on-call rotation and document technical work. - Work with colleagues across teams and time zones to deliver engineering projects.

Requirements - At least 3 years of engineering experience, preferably in a production environment. - Experience with Linux administration at scale, bare-metal orchestration, Kubernetes, virtualization, CI/CD, and configuration management. - Familiarity with platforms and tools such as OpenStack or Canonical MaaS, VMware ESXi, GitLab CI/CD or Jenkins, and Chef, Ansible, or Salt. - Ability to write moderate to complex automation code; examples in the source include Python, Perl, PHP, JavaScript, and Go. - Experience on projects of varying size and writing technical documentation. - U.S. citizenship or permanent residency; able to complete periodic background and fingerprint checks required for some government customers. - Strong communication, attention to detail, sound judgment, initiative, and ability to work effectively with a flexible, distributed team.

Nice to have Knowledge of network protocols and the OSI model, Linux distributions such as Ubuntu or Red Hat, block storage, container and monitoring platforms, threat intelligence, or mobile technology. Experience using AI tools to improve decisions, workflows, or efficiency is also sought.
