Principal Platform Product Manager - Billing & Authentication

Role overview

Set the direction for shared platform services that underpin multiple products, with an initial focus on subscription billing and customer identity. You will define the roadmap, service behavior, priorities, and acceptance criteria, partnering with engineering and business teams on a major billing migration and identity modernization.

Responsibilities

- Own the multi-year roadmap for billing, authentication, and other core services as the platform evolves. - Set strategy for subscriptions, pricing, plans, invoices, payment methods, recovery, refunds, and account changes. - Define the stages, success measures, test expectations, rollback plans, and sign-off criteria for migrating from a legacy billing system to Stripe Billing. - Make it easier to launch pricing changes, plans, and add-ons, while connecting what customers pay for to the access they receive. - Guide the identity platform, including sign-in, single sign-on, account structure, roles, and permissions, in partnership with engineering and security. - Define reliable billing data and align priorities with Finance, FP&A, Revenue Operations, Support, Sales, and product teams.

Requirements

- Deep understanding of billing and payments in a subscription business, including financial controls and the effects on customers. - Technical product judgment to shape platform decisions with engineering teams. - Ability to lead complex, cross-functional work and make priorities and trade-offs clear to technical and nontechnical audiences. - Experience defining shared platform services that support multiple products or teams. - Strong communication skills, including explaining billing or access decisions to executives, engineers, and support staff. - Familiarity with using AI tools for research, analysis, and day-to-day work.

Nice to have

- Led a migration from a legacy billing system to Stripe or another modern billing platform. - Experience with identity and access technologies such as OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, or role-based access control. - Work with entitlements, packaging, feature access, partner or reseller billing, or finance systems such as ERP, CPQ, revenue recognition, or SOX controls. - Experience in a high-volume, self-service small-business subscription environment or mentoring senior product managers.
