Role overview
This remote, quota-carrying Senior Customer Engineer role partners with account executives to drive technical engagement across state, local, and education (SLED) government accounts. The position blends pre-sales architectural design with long-term customer adoption, owning the technical relationship from initial discovery through renewal while using AI-augmented workflows to focus on high-value strategic work.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical discovery, build bespoke architectures, and deliver product demonstrations and proof-of-concepts spanning security, networking, and developer platforms, tailored to public sector procurement standards - Serve as the primary technical contact through onboarding, implementation, and ongoing adoption, monitoring customer health telemetry and resolving integration challenges common in municipal and educational IT environments - Carry a variable sales quota tied to new business acquisition and account expansion, identifying cross-sell and up-sell opportunities from product usage data and leading technical quarterly business reviews with C-level executives - Act as a trusted technical advisor across the entire customer lifecycle, maintaining continuous engagement from maturity to renewal - Use AI agents and internal platforms to automate RFP and security questionnaire responses, sandbox provisioning, and routine telemetry monitoring
Requirements
- Proven experience working with or selling into SLED, local government, or municipal agencies, with a deep understanding of public sector buying cycles, compliance requirements, and government IT constraints - Background in customer-facing technical roles such as Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, Sales Engineering, or Forward Deployed Engineering - Broad technical expertise spanning web security, networking (routing, DNS, DDoS mitigation), cloud infrastructure, and enterprise architecture - Track record operating in a quota-carrying or revenue-aligned environment, with understanding of SaaS metrics, business value translation, and public sector or enterprise sales cycles - Exceptional presentation and stakeholder management skills, capable of bridging deep technical implementation details with high-level government executive strategy
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience building, deploying, or architecting solutions using developer platforms and AI ecosystems, including edge AI runtimes, AI gateways, and vector databases - Familiarity with prompt engineering, large language model orchestration, or retrieval-augmented generation architectures - Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages for writing custom integration scripts, API connectors, and edge computing functions
