Job details
About this role
Role overview A senior backend product engineering role on a Workflow team building platform capabilities that coordinate business processes across a hospitality software suite. The position spans backend services, APIs, data, and event-driven systems, with the autonomy to own work end-to-end from design through production.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and operate customer-facing backend services primarily in PHP and Java, contributing to the frontend when needed - Build reliable APIs, data models, integrations, asynchronous processes, and event-driven services using PostgreSQL, Kafka, REST, and gRPC - Own changes end-to-end across application code, service boundaries, infrastructure, and deployment configuration - Apply an AI-first workflow that uses an AI coding assistant as the default starting point for implementation, holding generated code to the same review, testing, and production standards as hand-written code - Improve scalability, resilience, performance, security, and maintainability across distributed systems supporting customer-critical operations - Own observability, automated testing, release quality, production support, and on-call incident response - Collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, Security, and other engineering teams to turn ambiguous requirements into pragmatic solutions - Contribute as a senior individual contributor through architecture decisions, code reviews, pair programming, documentation, and mentoring
Requirements - Five or more years of software engineering experience building, shipping, and operating production applications, with strong proficiency in PHP and/or Java - Solid grasp of API design, relational data modeling, PostgreSQL, distributed systems, and asynchronous or event-driven architecture - Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging and streaming systems, REST, gRPC, and service integrations - Experience owning cloud-native delivery and operations, including Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, CI/CD, observability, and production incident response - Track record of owning complex work end-to-end, navigating ambiguity, and making sound technical decisions
Nice to have - Comfort working in a fully remote, globally distributed engineering organization - Interest in applying AI tools to accelerate implementation while preserving engineering quality
Benefits and work setup Permanent remote-first environment with PTO aligned to local labor requirements, monthly wellness days for extra-long weekends, fully paid parental leave, a home office stipend based on country of residency, and access to professional development courses and manager training programs.
