Role overview
This position leads the development and execution of content strategy for a secure web and mobile platform being built for a U.S. Space Force initiative. The work sits at the intersection of content design, information architecture, and product development, partnering with design, engineering, product, and communications teams to deliver clear, accessible content for military and broader defense audiences.
Responsibilities
- Define and document the overarching content strategy, including voice, tone, structure, and delivery standards for the platform. - Design scalable, reusable content models in collaboration with developers and CMS administrators using a headless CMS. - Set up editorial standards, style guides, and publishing workflows that maintain consistency and compliance across a distributed author base. - Train, support, and onboard content contributors through playbooks, templates, and onboarding resources. - Partner with UX designers to draft and review interface copy, microcopy, and task-based content for clarity and accessibility. - Run content audits, user research, and stakeholder interviews, then apply analytics to refine content over time.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in content strategy, UX writing, or content design for digital products. - Hands-on experience with headless CMS platforms such as Directus, Contentful, or Strapi. - Demonstrated ability to build and maintain editorial standards, content models, and governance frameworks. - Strong writing and editing skills with attention to clarity, tone, and accessibility. - Experience collaborating with cross-functional product teams in Agile environments. - Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements and user-centered content practices.
Nice to have
- Bachelor's degree in IT, cybersecurity, data science, information systems, or computer science from an ABET-accredited or CAE-designated institution. - Experience collaborating with public affairs and legal teams in a DoD context. - Background supporting federal or DoD digital services or working in regulated, secure environments. - Understanding of structured content design and content API delivery. - Familiarity with plain language, information architecture, and UX principles. - Exposure to security clearance processes or prior work with classified content workflows. - Prior experience working in or with the U.S. Space Force.
