Senior Manager, Engineering (Container Product Engineering)

Role overview Lead the engineering team that builds and ships the core hardened container product in a fast-growing, AI-aware infrastructure company. This is a Director-track position managing roughly fifteen engineers, several at Staff and Principal level, with direct reports to the VP of Engineering for Containers, Libraries, and Repositories. The role blends people leadership, product partnership, and hands-on technical direction.

Responsibilities - Manage and grow the Container Product Engineering team, organizing engineers into small sub-teams with clear project ownership and running a healthy operating cadence. - Coach a senior-heavy team including Staff and Principal engineers through direct feedback, career development, performance management, and recruiting support. - Partner with Product Management and Technical Program Management to convert product requirements into well-scoped projects with requirements and design docs in place before each cycle. - Hold the technical bar for product features, the image build pipeline, registry performance and distribution, and adoption tooling for engineers and AI agents. - Review designs and pull requests, make or assign final calls on contested technical decisions, and stay close enough to the work to lead through judgment rather than process. - Represent the team in cross-functional planning, protect it from mid-cycle churn, and own delivery outcomes end to end.

Requirements - Proven engineering leadership experience managing senior and staff-level engineers on infrastructure or platform products. - Technical fluency with containers, container registries, the OCI image format, Kubernetes, services written in Go, and cloud infrastructure on GCP or AWS. - Background leading distributed, remote-first teams across North America and Europe with strong written communication. - Track record of partnering with product to translate customer and compliance needs (such as STIG-style hardening standards) into shipped features. - Comfort with build systems, image signing and attestation (e.g., Sigstore), and adoption tooling such as Dockerfile migration utilities.

Nice to have - Linux distribution or packaging experience. - Familiarity with Model Context Protocol servers and AI-agent adoption patterns.
