Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead backend engineering for large-scale distributed systems built with .NET and Azure. The role combines hands-on delivery with architectural direction: you’ll work directly with business stakeholders, take services from requirements through production support, and help other engineers deliver reliable systems in complex environments.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain distributed backend services and APIs using C#/.NET and Azure. - Take end-to-end ownership of service delivery, including data access, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, deployment, and operational support. - Learn complex business domains quickly and translate stakeholder needs into workable technical designs. - Set technical direction for your area through architecture decisions and trade-off analysis. - Diagnose recurring production, tooling, and development workflow issues and address their underlying causes. - Mentor engineers, coordinate across teams, and improve engineering practices and quality.
Requirements - At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience and a record of shipping and operating production backend systems at scale. - Strong C# and .NET experience, including .NET 6 or later and ASP.NET Core. - Deep experience with Azure services such as App Services, Functions, Service Bus, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Storage, Key Vault, and Entra ID. - Ability to work independently through ambiguity in complex codebases and distributed systems. - Experience in a regulated or domain-heavy field, such as healthcare, life sciences, or finance. - Strong communication skills, including the ability to build relationships with non-technical stakeholders and connect business needs to engineering work.
Nice to have - Health or life sciences technology experience, including clinical systems, regulatory compliance, HIPAA, HL7, or FHIR. - Azure DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code experience with tools such as Bicep or Terraform. - Familiarity with event-driven systems, microservices, distributed messaging, or data-intensive platforms. - Experience integrating machine learning or AI into healthcare systems, or leading high-impact work across teams. - Exposure to Docker, SQL Server, Entity Framework Core, Application Insights, or Azure Monitor.
