Remote job
Distributed Systems Engineer, Analytical Database Platform
Job details
About this role
Role overview Build and operate backend systems that ingest, process, store, and deliver large volumes of data for analytics and customer-facing products. You’ll focus either on an analytical database platform or on data delivery and retrieval, working across the data lifecycle to improve performance, reliability, and access to information.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and operate distributed systems for high-volume data workloads, primarily using Go. - Improve data integrity, latency, query performance, availability, and operational efficiency. - Make services resilient with approaches such as backpressure, retries, idempotency, replication, and graceful degradation. - Set service objectives, monitor production health, plan capacity, respond to incidents, and investigate bottlenecks. - Depending on focus, operate analytical database clusters or build streaming pipelines, APIs, log delivery, and near real-time alerting systems. - Collaborate with product and engineering teams on data needs, evaluate technologies, and take part in an on-call rotation.
Requirements - At least three years of professional experience with backend, infrastructure, database, or distributed-data systems. - Strong Go skills, or substantial Rust or C++ systems experience and the ability to become productive in Go. - Experience operating production services, including deployment, monitoring, capacity planning, incident response, and debugging. - Solid understanding of distributed-systems concepts such as concurrency, consistency, fault tolerance, partitioning, and data integrity. - Experience with high-throughput or low-latency data processing and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. - Depth in either database systems and query performance, or data delivery through streams, pipelines, APIs, and integrations.
Nice to have - Experience with ClickHouse or another large analytical database; Kafka, Flink, or similar streaming tools; or GraphQL and high-volume APIs. - Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools, containers, Kubernetes, or Linux. - Contributions to open-source database or distributed-systems projects.
Benefits and work setup - Listed work locations include several US cities, Lisbon, and London. - The role is eligible for an equity plan. US benefits include health, dental and vision coverage, spending accounts, family-forming support, mental health resources, travel medical coverage, disability and life insurance, retirement savings, employee stock participation, flexible paid time off, and leave programs. Benefits may vary by country.
