Role overview

A remote Senior Accountant position on the finance team of a cloud-based learning platform that serves certification, credentialing, test prep, continuing education, and corporate training audiences. Reporting to the Controller, this role owns core accounting operations, financial reporting, and process improvements that keep the books accurate and support strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

- Manage the full accounting function, including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and billing operations - Analyze company expenditures, verify proper allocation of expenses across departments, and report spending back to department leaders - Review transactions to confirm accounting treatment aligns with GAAP, company policies, and revenue recognition rules - Post monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals, and review general ledger accounts for completeness and accuracy - Assist with financial statement preparation (balance sheet, income statement, and changes in financial position), budget variance analysis, and the annual budgeting process - Prepare year-end schedules supporting tax returns and identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA preferred - 5-8 years of accounting or auditing experience for the senior level (3-5 years for the staff level), with public accounting background preferred - Thorough knowledge of financial statement preparation, GAAP, and revenue recognition - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with clear written and verbal communication - Self-starter who can work independently or on a team, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Nice to have

- Hands-on experience with accounting systems such as NetSuite, Intacct, or QuickBooks
