About this role
Role overview A remote accounting role supporting the finance team of a cloud-based learning platform that serves certification, credentialing, test prep, and continuing education organizations serving roughly eleven million learners. The position focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, analyzing data, and ensuring regulatory compliance, with opportunities to contribute to budgeting, forecasting, audits, and process improvements across the accounting function.
Responsibilities - Manage day-to-day accounting work, including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and billing - Analyze and review company expenditures, verify proper expense allocation across departments, and report findings back to those teams - Review transactions to confirm accounting treatment complies with GAAP and internal policies - Evaluate billing transactions to validate revenue recognition treatment and accuracy - Review general ledger accounts, prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly adjusting entries and accruals, and help build balance sheet, income statement, and budget variance analyses - Assist with budget design and preparation, year-end tax schedules, and ongoing improvements to accounting processes
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA preferred - Three to five years of accounting or audit experience for staff-level candidates, or five to eight years for senior candidates; public accounting experience preferred - Thorough knowledge of GAAP, financial statement preparation, and revenue recognition principles - Strong written and verbal communication skills, plus solid analytical and problem-solving abilities - Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and demonstrated experience with accounting systems such as NetSuite, Intacct, or QuickBooks - Self-directed, detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Nice to have - Public accounting background - Active CPA credential - Hands-on experience with cloud accounting platforms including NetSuite, Intacct, or QuickBooks
Benefits and work setup Fully remote position reporting to the Controller, benchmarked against the Chicago market with a salary range of $65,000 to $85,000. The total rewards package includes medical and ancillary benefits, eligibility for an annual bonus, work-from-home expense stipends, flexible paid time off, and an annual professional development stipend of roughly $1,200 for skills development.
