Role overview
This is a remote Staff or Senior Accountant role embedded in the finance team of a cloud-based learning platform company serving certification, credentialing, test prep, and continuing education programs. The position reports to the Controller and spans the full accounting cycle, reporting, budgeting, and process improvement. It is a good fit for an organized, analytical professional who enjoys partnering across departments.
Responsibilities
- Manage core accounting work including account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and billing - Review company expenditures to confirm proper allocation across departments and report variances as needed - Ensure transactions follow GAAP and internal policies, including correct revenue recognition treatment - Review general ledger accounts and post monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals - Assist in preparing financial statements and budget variance analysis - Help design and prepare budgets for management review - Prepare year-end schedules for annual tax returns - Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA preferred - 3–5 years (Staff) or 5–8 years (Senior) of accounting or auditing experience; public accounting background preferred - Thorough knowledge of financial statement preparation, GAAP, and revenue recognition - Strong verbal and written communication skills - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills - Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment - Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel - Hands-on experience with accounting systems such as NetSuite, Intacct, or QuickBooks preferred
