AI Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Develop and maintain production AI agents, evaluation systems, and related tools used by teams in healthcare, life sciences, and marketing. You will own individual features from design through deployment and production support, while working with senior engineers on agent architecture and collaborating with product and research partners to improve answer quality, grounding, coverage, and citation accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Build and improve agent tools for retrieval, grounding, keyword and vector search, live-source search, analytics, and document generation. - Connect agent systems to external APIs and data sources, and handle authentication, pagination, timeouts, and structured responses. - Extend agent graphs and middleware, including tool-calling flows, skill selection, review steps, answer processing, and token safeguards. - Use production data and infrastructure to improve system observability, reliability, maintenance, speed, cost, and accuracy. - Own features through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing production support. - Support experiments and evaluations that identify weaknesses such as unsupported answers, inaccurate citations, or context limitations.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of hands-on engineering experience, ideally with AI or data systems. - Professional experience writing and testing Python. - Experience integrating APIs and working through technical documentation and complex JSON responses. - Experience using LLMs as a developer and interest in making AI systems reliable. - Ability to produce high-quality code with AI-assisted development tools, or learn to use them quickly. - Comfort taking ownership of features in production systems from implementation through deployment.
Nice to have
- Production experience with asynchronous Python, such as asyncio or aiohttp. - Familiarity with agent frameworks, search and retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, or hybrid retrieval. - Exposure to GraphQL, analytics APIs, observability practices, or frontend-adjacent work.
Benefits and work setup
The stated salary range is €35,000–€55,000 per year. The role offers mentorship, peer support, early responsibility, and room to grow. Benefits typically include health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off and holidays, wellness support, life insurance, and learning opportunities; availability may vary by location.
