Staff Machine Learning Engineer

Role overview A staff-level position on a data team at a large online therapy service, focused on designing, building, and productionizing machine learning and optimization models that power personalization and matching for millions of users. The role partners closely with data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, and product managers to shape the ML platform direction.

Responsibilities - Design, prototype, and productionize scalable machine learning and optimization models end to end - Develop frameworks, pipelines, libraries, utilities, and tools that process large-scale data for ML tasks - Partner with data scientists to troubleshoot and optimize complex data pipelines and to deploy models into production - Build and evolve a model deployment platform that simplifies rolling out new models - Gather requirements from product and business partners and translate them into ML solutions - Mentor junior data scientists and ML engineers and contribute to ML best practices and platform direction

Requirements - 6+ years of experience in machine learning - Proven track record deploying and integrating ML models into production systems - Strong expertise in deep learning, neural networks, statistical modeling, tree-based methods, boosting, regression, and dimensionality reduction - Extensive experience building personalization and recommendation systems - Working knowledge of operations research concepts including mathematical modeling, linear and integer programming, and discrete event simulation - Familiarity with large language models, fine-tuning methods, and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) - Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals, advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, and strong written and verbal communication
