Job details
About this role
Role overview A venture-backed, fully distributed health organization is hiring a Chief Product Officer to lead its product portfolio and AI technology direction. The role spans two connected efforts: the core health plan platforms already running for regional payer partners, and a new generation of AI capabilities, including agentic systems, that will reshape how work gets done across the platform. It is a hands-on executive position at a roughly 85-person company, partnering with regional health plans to launch and scale Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans (D-SNP and C-SNP).
Responsibilities - Define product vision and translate it into a sequenced roadmap with staffing and delivery commitments. - Decide where AI changes platform behavior and where it does not, grounding those calls in measurable evidence. - Make build, buy, and partner decisions across core administrative processing systems and adjacent vendor platforms. - Shape packaging and pricing strategy for health plan partner offerings. - Lead design and delivery of AI capabilities across care management, member and provider engagement, utilization management, claims, encounters, and operations, with defined model selection, evaluation, monitoring, and human oversight standards. - Partner with security on data governance for protected health information in AI systems, including vendor review, business associate agreements, and audit trails. - Maintain core health plan systems spanning enrollment, care management, quality and Star Ratings reporting, risk adjustment, and partner analytics. - Keep the platform aligned with CMS requirements and Model of Care obligations. - Reduce per-member cost to serve while protecting service levels and audit performance. - Run planning, prioritization, and release management; report metrics such as adoption, cycle time, defect rates, cost to serve, and partner satisfaction. - Manage vendor and platform relationships, contract scope, service levels, and escalations. - Represent the product voice in partner diligence, finalist presentations, contracting, board reporting, and fundraising narratives.
Requirements - Significant senior product leadership experience owning a full product portfolio end to end. - Proven track record shipping software in regulated environments, ideally healthcare or insurance. - Experience making disciplined build, buy, and partner decisions with measurable outcomes. - Hands-on operator who can write specifications, sit in partner meetings, and build a small senior team that produces substantial output. - Demonstrated ability to work alongside engineering, clinical, operations, compliance, actuarial, and finance leaders toward shared goals. - Strong written communication, with a direct style and willingness to surface problems early.
Nice to have - Series B through Series D experience, including periods of financial constraint or restructuring. - Special Needs Plan experience, particularly D-SNP or C-SNP product design and operations. - Familiarity with core administrative processing systems. - Background selling to or serving regional Blue Cross Blue Shield plans or provider-sponsored health plans. - Comfort with ambiguity and decisive judgment before complete data is available. - Advanced degree in a technical, clinical, or business field.
Benefits and work setup - Remote position based anywhere in the United States, with work performed primarily at a computer workstation. - Up to 30 percent travel for partner meetings, company gatherings, and industry conferences. - Salary range of $260,000 to $300,000. - Equal opportunity employer committed to an inclusive workplace, with reasonable accommodations available and participation in E-Verify.
