Commerce Technical Architect

Role overview

A senior architecture role focused on designing end-to-end commerce platforms for large enterprises operating across both B2C and B2B channels. The position owns target-state architecture decisions spanning frontend experience, core commerce engines, ERP integrations, and supporting data flows, balancing scalability with practical delivery constraints. The work is consultative in nature, partnering closely with engineering teams and business stakeholders across global, distributed organizations.

Responsibilities

- Define and steward target-state architecture across B2C and B2B commerce, covering platform, frontend, integration, and data layers - Design commerce-to-ERP integration patterns, including synchronization direction, event models, reconciliation logic, and multi-ERP scenarios - Architect B2B capabilities such as account hierarchies, contract pricing, quote-to-order, punchout, bulk ordering, credit terms, and approval chains, plus multi-region storefronts with regional catalogs, currencies, taxes, and payment configurations - Shape frontend architecture decisions including rendering strategies, component-driven development, design systems, and API contracts, and engineer for peak traffic through caching, CDN design, and performance tuning - Evaluate integration and iPaaS solutions, distinguishing connector capabilities from custom development needs, and lead migration and cutover planning including legacy data movement and phased or zero-downtime rollouts - Produce architecture diagrams, integration specifications, and Architecture Decision Records; set technical standards, review designs, mentor engineers, manage cross-team dependencies, and communicate trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements

- Approximately 10+ years of hands-on commerce engineering and architecture experience in large-scale enterprise environments, with deep B2B commerce expertise (account hierarchies, contract pricing, quote-to-order, punchout, approval chains, credit terms) - Proven experience designing multi-region, multi-entity commerce platforms spanning regional catalogs, currencies, taxes, and varied payment configurations, plus strong order management knowledge (split shipments, backorders, multi-warehouse fulfillment, omnichannel/BOPIS routing) - Solid ERP-centric architecture background, including bidirectional data synchronization with ERP as system of record, plus hands-on experience with integration and iPaaS platforms - Working knowledge of SSO, authentication, identity, and delegated B2B access patterns, and demonstrated ability to architect for performance and scale (caching, CDN design, peak traffic) - Experience leading migration and cutover efforts using phased or minimal-downtime approaches, plus architecture governance experience (ADRs, technical standards, design reviews) - Strong stakeholder communication skills, practical AI fluency for evaluating AI-powered and agentic workflows, and comfort collaborating with globally distributed teams across cultures and time zones
