Data Architect, BI Analytics Platform
Job details
About this role
Role overview Define and build a business intelligence analytics platform that turns raw data into reliable, traceable information for analysts and business leaders. This hands-on architecture role sets standards across data modeling, lineage, security, privacy, reliability, and change management, then applies them through engineering practices and design oversight.
Responsibilities - Own data architecture and schema standards across platform layers, including naming conventions, modeling patterns, and design reviews. - Establish end-to-end, column-level lineage supported by a maintained data catalog and business glossary. - Design privacy and access controls, including data classification, masking, row-level policies, least-privilege access, retention, and deletion. - Set data product SLAs, SLOs, and freshness targets, with monitoring and alerting to detect reliability issues. - Architect ingestion, transformation, and orchestration for recoverable, idempotent, cost-aware data flows, including backfills and late-arriving data. - Partner with business, engineering, security, legal, and compliance teams; document decisions, enforce quality practices, and mentor data and analytics engineers.
Requirements - At least eight years in data engineering, architecture, or warehousing, including three or more years as an accountable architect. - Expert SQL skills and working fluency in Python. - Production experience operating Snowflake or an equivalent platform at scale, including access controls, masking, tagging, resource monitoring, and cost management. - Strong dimensional modeling skills and experience with privacy-sensitive data handling, including classification, minimization, masking or tokenization, retention, and deletion. - Experience defining data SLAs and supporting them with monitoring, alerting, and incident response. - Strong engineering discipline: version control, code review, CI/CD, automated testing, and written technical decisions; able to influence technical and business partners.
Nice to have - Experience with dbt, Terraform, Airflow, Dagster, or a data catalog such as Atlan, Alation, Collibra, or DataHub. - Familiarity with privacy and security frameworks or regulations such as CCPA, GDPR, or SOC 2.
Benefits and work setup - Work-from-home setup, with periodic team events and offsites. - Listed benefits include salary and equity, medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, paid holidays and flexible vacation, family leave, a 401(k) contribution, health spending accounts, and home-office support.
