Senior Research Engineer - Applied LLM Systems (m/w/d)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Investigate open technical questions in applied language-model systems and turn the findings into dependable evaluations, clear recommendations, and implementations the product team can build on. The work spans problem definition, research, experimentation, and engineering, with substantial autonomy over how each question is examined and close collaboration with product and engineering colleagues.
Responsibilities - Turn broad technical questions into focused problems with measurable criteria for success. - Review relevant methods and select promising approaches for deeper investigation. - Design evaluations for models, prompts, and pipelines, assessing whether datasets, metrics, and experiments answer the intended question. - Run experiments and interpret results to determine how reliable comparisons and conclusions are. - Implement useful findings so the core engineering team can build on them. - Work with product and engineering partners to decide how validated results should inform the product.
Requirements - Ability to independently structure open-ended technical problems and carry them through to well-supported results. - Skill in quantitative analysis and in judging the strength and limitations of evaluations or comparisons. - Ability to learn statistical or methodological techniques as needed. - Relevant applied research or engineering experience; the role values demonstrated problem-solving ability over a checklist of credentials.
Benefits and work setup - Full-time, remote-first role with offices in Berlin. - Small team with individual ownership and short decision-making paths. - English is sufficient for work; German is welcome but not required. - Regular use of AI coding tools is part of the development workflow. - Work on systems intended for real hospital use, where reliability matters.
