Job details
About this role
Role overview The QA Lead is accountable for quality outcomes across a product team while remaining hands-on in testing and automation. The role sets risk-based quality direction, coordinates work and decisions, and helps teams identify issues early—from unclear requirements to production risks. It also covers quality evaluation for AI-powered features, where curated test data and measurable evaluation criteria are needed.
Responsibilities - Set and communicate quality strategy, standards, and release criteria based on product risks and user impact. - Plan and distribute testing work, track progress and blockers, and coach team members toward stronger ownership. - Review requirements and designs for ambiguity, edge cases, testability, and non-functional risks. - Lead exploratory testing and maintain automated suites in CI, addressing reliability, coverage, and reporting. - Define evaluation approaches for AI features using datasets, grading criteria, baselines, and regression thresholds. - Assess release readiness, communicate risks and trade-offs, and coordinate validation and follow-up with engineering and delivery partners.
Requirements - At least seven years in quality engineering or QA, with substantial hands-on experience in both manual testing and automation. - At least two years leading a QA effort or team, including planning work, unblocking colleagues, and owning quality outcomes. - At least five years designing test strategies for complex systems and four years maintaining automated suites in production CI environments. - Experience with a modern UI automation tool and an API testing approach, plus familiarity with test management and bug tracking tools. - CI/CD fluency and the ability to assess risks, estimate work, and explain quality status clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Daily practical use of AI tools for quality work, paired with judgment to review their outputs; strong written and spoken English for remote collaboration.
Nice to have Experience building QA practices or playbooks, leading quality in a client-facing setting, performance or load testing, security testing, SQL-based validation, observability tools, or enterprise integrations.
Benefits and work setup The position is remote and allows work from anywhere. The source lists a monthly USD service fee, 20 business days of paid time off plus six local holidays, caregiver time off, and an entrepreneurial work environment.
