About this role
Role overview The SAP Basis Engineer provides hands-on technical support for client SAP environments, handling migrations, refreshes, performance work, and ongoing maintenance. This is a second-shift role scheduled from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM Pacific Time, with a strong preference for candidates based on the U.S. West Coast. The engineer reports to the Principal Director of Application Support.
Responsibilities - Execute project-based and production support tasks including migrations, landscape refreshes, backup and recovery, and high-availability configuration - Perform routine maintenance such as patching, performance tuning, and problem management - Work across departments to define best practices for future SAP landscapes - Build and maintain documentation covering problem resolution, root cause, and standard procedures - Drive continual improvement through collaboration with delivery and development teams - Participate in root cause analysis and execute against defined project objectives
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Sciences, or equivalent experience - 3+ years as an SAP Basis engineer in a service provider or advanced IT organization operating in a 24/7 environment - Solid background administering the SAP HANA database - Understanding of SAP security principles - Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ansible, and configuration management tooling - Familiarity with agile engineering practices such as Kanban and continuous delivery - Experience using AWS and Azure services on commercial or government cloud
Nice to have - Development experience with a high-level language such as Python or Java - Experience with Sybase ASE - Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
