Engineer

Role overview This role leads the engineering organization at a senior level with a player-coach mindset, blending hands-on architectural work with the management of engineering team leads and full-stack engineers. The mission centers on evolving a virtual therapy platform's core systems, integrating machine learning capabilities, and setting technical direction for a fully remote engineering team.

Responsibilities - Steward the platform architecture spanning React, Node.js/Express, Postgres, and AWS ECS infrastructure - Champion a JavaScript-to-TypeScript migration with consistent patterns, tooling, and standards - Shape ETL pipelines and a config-driven AI integration framework that helps engineers ship intelligent features reliably - Run design reviews and produce architecture decision records documenting defensible engineering choices - Coach engineers across all levels and raise collective capability through pairing, reviews, and feedback - Partner with product and clinical stakeholders on sequencing, scoping, and de-risking major initiatives

Requirements - 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with at least 3 years at senior or staff level - Deep production experience with JavaScript and TypeScript across the full stack - Strong working knowledge of React, Node.js/Express, and Postgres, including performance, reliability, and maintainability concerns at each layer - Experience designing distributed systems or data pipeline architectures on AWS (ECS, RDS, S3, Lambda) - Track record of technical mentorship with measurable impact on engineers around you - Background at a growth-stage startup balancing velocity and sustainability

Nice to have - Experience with healthcare or regulated data environments such as HIPAA compliance and PHI handling - Familiarity with event-driven architectures, message queues, or streaming pipelines - Significant experience architecting production ML/AI systems, including LLM integration and model lifecycle management - Open source contributions, engineering blog posts, or conference talks
