Staff Machine Learning Engineer

Role overview Serve as a technical lead on a data science and machine learning team powering a large consumer-to-professional marketplace. This Staff-level role shapes the ML strategy for search ranking, recommendations, and matching, while driving the platform's evolution toward an AI-driven marketplace with self-hosted large language models running at scale.

Responsibilities - Lead the design and development of advanced ML and AI models that improve marketplace algorithms in search, recommendation, and matching. - Architect MLOps practices for model training, post-training, and serving, including fine-tuning, RLHF, distillation, and inference-cost optimization. - Define evaluation frameworks spanning offline metrics, online experimentation, and LLM-specific quality scoring, ensuring regression-safe releases. - Partner cross-functionally with engineering, ML infrastructure, data science, and product teams to ship high-impact ML systems. - Set long-term technical vision and roadmap, drive new product initiatives, and mentor engineers on advanced ML techniques.

Requirements - Master's or PhD in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, statistics, or mathematics. - 6+ years of experience in data science and machine learning, ideally in tech or marketplace environments. - Demonstrated experience post-training and self-hosting open-weight LLMs, including quantization and serving infrastructure. - End-to-end MLOps fluency, deep knowledge of evaluation metrics, and comfort with large-scale distributed system design and tuning. - Proficiency in SQL, Python, and ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, with strong communication skills for cross-functional stakeholders.
