Principal Software Engineer

Role overview Set the technical direction for a large-scale platform that extracts and standardizes financial data from varied source formats. The principal-level role combines hands-on engineering with cross-team leadership, with a focus on making automated outputs more accurate, traceable, and dependable while reducing reliance on manual review.

Responsibilities - Own the architecture and evolution of data ingestion, extraction, and normalization systems processing large volumes of records from PDFs, HTML, APIs, and spreadsheets. - Improve confidence and correctness through AI-based validation, confidence scoring, provenance tracking, and deterministic safeguards. - Define system contracts that make data quality, traceability, and the origin of extracted values clear to downstream users. - Balance AI-based methods with rules and procedural controls where they improve reliability and explainability. - Identify and address architectural or operational bottlenecks affecting scale, accuracy, reliability, or engineering speed. - Set quality measures and service expectations with product and downstream teams, handle critical escalations, and mentor senior engineers while remaining hands-on.

Requirements - 15 or more years building and operating large-scale production systems. - Proven experience designing data ingestion, extraction, or processing platforms at scale. - Deep expertise in one or more of distributed systems, data platforms and pipelines, AI or machine learning extraction, or platform and infrastructure engineering. - Ability to design trustworthy systems combining probabilistic AI methods with deterministic approaches. - Strong understanding of reliability, observability, failure modes, and iterative production hardening. - Track record of technical leadership across teams, reducing operational or manual effort through system design, and navigating ambiguity.

Nice to have - Experience in document understanding, NLP, or financial data extraction. - Experience with provenance, lineage, or confidence-scoring systems, cloud-native architectures, modern data stacks, or shared internal platforms.
