Role overview A senior cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert is needed to support a Department of Defense customer's systems and capabilities. The role focuses on security authorization, vulnerability management, and continuous monitoring within a defense agency environment. This is a remote position with occasional onsite travel to customer facilities in the Washington, DC metro area.
Responsibilities - Act as a senior cybersecurity SME supporting assessment, authorization, and ongoing monitoring of mission systems - Lead implementation and execution of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and maintain system authorization packages - Monitor cybersecurity posture, track vulnerabilities, findings, and remediation activities across assigned systems - Develop, review, and maintain RMF artifacts, eMASS packages, and supporting cybersecurity documentation and evidence - Analyze complex cybersecurity risks and craft mitigation strategies and courses of action for leadership and engineering teams - Coordinate with system owners, engineers, architects, and Government stakeholders to resolve intricate security issues and ensure DoD/DISA compliance
Requirements - Master's degree with at least 15 years of relevant cybersecurity experience, or equivalent experience substituting for the degree - One current certification such as SecurityX/CASP+, CCISO, CCSP, CCGRC/CAP, or Cloud+ - Active and maintainable DoD Top Secret clearance - Residence within commuting distance of customer facilities in the Washington, DC metro area - Extensive hands-on experience with RMF processes, eMASS authorization packages, and tools such as ESS, ACAS, COAMS, CMRS, STIG Viewer, and STIG/SRRs - Demonstrated ability to independently analyze technical cybersecurity challenges and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
Nice to have - Prior DISA cybersecurity experience or familiarity with Mission Partner Environment (MPE) settings - Background as an ISSO, senior cybersecurity advisor, security engineering SME, or Trusted Agent - Working knowledge of Public Key Infrastructure, certificates, and key management - CISSP or comparable senior-level cybersecurity certification
