Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Trust and Safety)

Role overview A staff-level backend engineering position on a Trust and Safety Foundations team responsible for the data and systems that underpin consumer risk evaluation and credit reporting obligations. The role blends technical strategy, hands-on architecture, and mentorship, with a focus on highly reliable distributed infrastructure in a regulated domain.

Responsibilities - Set the technical direction for the team over a year-long horizon and connect it to high-impact, business-critical initiatives. - Collaborate across product, design, and analytics throughout the development lifecycle, making trade-offs explicit and managing risk. - Act as a force multiplier by defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes. - Own operational health through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting that keep services available. - Raise the bar on quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and sharing them through writing and tech talks. - Develop other engineers through feedback, mentorship, and leading by example.

Requirements - 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale, using languages such as Python or Kotlin. - Extensive track record building highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes. - Experience delivering major features or system components, including deprecating existing functionality, through a clear technical and execution plan, with high-quality code that is easy for others to use. - Comfortable navigating ambiguity, from low-level language idioms up to the architecture of large systems. - Demonstrated growth trajectory shaped by iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers. - Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively across a global engineering organization. - Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
