Software Engineer II, Backend (Batch Developer Experience)

Role overview

Build tools and systems that make batch software development and testing faster and more dependable. Working with product and infrastructure engineers, you will contribute to workflows that help teams test and operate important batch workloads reliably. This backend engineering role involves delivering projects in stages, collaborating on technical decisions, and helping maintain the availability of the systems your team owns.

Responsibilities

- Break larger projects into manageable tasks and deliver work in phases with support from technical and management leads. - Collaborate with product, design, analytics, and engineering partners during planning and development. - Explain technical constraints and help weigh risks and trade-offs when shaping solutions. - Build, monitor, and support the operation and availability of team systems, escalating issues when needed. - Participate in on-call and ongoing operational support, as well as team growth activities such as interviewing.

Requirements

- At least 1.5 years of software engineering experience. - Experience designing, building, and launching backend systems, with proficiency in either Python or Kotlin. - Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. - Ability to turn a business problem into a solution spanning multiple software components, with clear, well-tested, extensible code. - Comfort working in a large codebase, debugging code written by others, and giving constructive code review feedback. - Strong written and spoken communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team. - A related bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

This remote role is open to candidates living in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan. The listed Canadian base salary range is $133,000–$183,000 per year.
