About this role

Role overview Help establish and apply safe operating standards across a large Kubernetes fleet. The team develops guidance and automated controls for workload configuration so services can scale while meeting availability and latency goals. You’ll shape the standards roadmap and carry each standard from research and early adoption through fleet-wide enforcement, working with service, capacity, deployment, and reliability teams.

Responsibilities - Define workload standards for resource settings, isolation, placement, disruption tolerance, and graceful shutdown. - Take standards from research and prototypes through early onboarding, self-service guidance, and automated policy enforcement. - Lead cross-team design and rollout efforts, mentor engineers, and set expectations for code quality and operational readiness. - Diagnose workload and node lifecycle issues, including blocked disruptions, stalled termination, and capacity management problems. - Establish safe cluster limits and scaling patterns for bursts such as scheduled jobs and large deployments. - Analyze resource usage and measure how standards affect availability, latency, risk, and cost; use findings to guide priorities.

Requirements - At least five years operating Kubernetes in production at scale; experience with Amazon EKS across multiple clusters is especially relevant. - Strong understanding of Kubernetes scheduling and resources, including requests and limits, throttling, affinity, taints, tolerations, and topology spread. - Knowledge of pod lifecycle and disruption handling, including graceful termination, disruption budgets, and node draining. - Experience enforcing configuration standards with admission control and policy-as-code tools such as OPA Gatekeeper or Kyverno. - Proficiency in Go or Python and experience building production infrastructure software such as controllers, operators, or admission webhooks. - Strong debugging, cross-team leadership, mentoring, impact measurement, and technical writing skills.

Benefits and work setup - Remote role for candidates residing in specified Canadian provinces and territories; new hires are invited to in-person onboarding. - Annual base pay range is CAD $153,000–$213,000, with compensation based on location, experience, and skills. - Benefits include health coverage for employees and dependents, monthly technology and wellness stipends, flexible time off, holidays, and an employee stock purchase plan.
