Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Post - Purchase International)

Role overview A remote Senior Software Engineer, Backend role is open on a Post-Purchase International team focused on building the platform and customer experiences that support expansion into new global markets. The position is based in Spain and partners closely with European engineering counterparts and broader international product teams. The work centers on scalable backend systems that power the end-to-end post-purchase journey across regions.

Responsibilities

- Own quarterly delivery goals and lead engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems - Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics across ideation, trade-off discussions, and technical decisions - Proactively surface project, process, technology, or business issues and drive them to resolution - Maintain reliability of team services through metrics, monitoring, escalation, and on-call support - Set and improve code review, design, and quality standards across the team and beyond - Contribute occasionally to full-stack work, including front-end components needed to ship end-to-end features - Mentor and grow engineers through feedback, guidance, and leading by example

Requirements

- 4+ years designing, building, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin - Track record with highly available distributed systems built on AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes - Enthusiasm for occasional front-end contributions (no prior front-end experience required) - Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, extensible designs - Proficiency making safe, large-scale changes in a sizeable codebase - Strong written and verbal communication for collaborating across a global engineering team - Self-driven growth mindset, actively seeking feedback from managers and peers

Nice to have

- Exposure to web apps built with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue
