Job details
About this role
Role overview Guide backend engineering work on capacity modeling: turning demand forecasts into practical infrastructure plans that can handle expected traffic, including peak sales periods. The team models how activity such as checkouts, app usage, and batch jobs affect compute resources, then recommends capacity settings across regions and environments. You’ll contribute technically while helping the team plan delivery, maintain operational health, and grow engineering practices.
Responsibilities - Own quarterly team goals and help engineers work through ambiguous, open-ended problems. - Collaborate with product, design, and analytics partners on ideas, constraints, risks, and trade-offs. - Identify and lead resolution of technical, operational, process, or business issues. - Create and monitor operational metrics, support availability, and participate in on-call work. - Improve code review and design practices, and share standards through documentation or technical talks. - Coach teammates and contribute to their development through feedback and example.
Requirements - At least four years designing, building, and launching scalable backend systems, using languages such as Python or Kotlin. - Experience with highly available distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. - Experience scaling systems up and down for high-volume events or seasonal traffic peaks. - Familiarity with tuning autoscaling, CPU and memory use, and multithreading for compute workloads. - Ability to plan significant system changes, write clear, maintainable code, and work safely in a large codebase. - Strong communication skills and a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
Benefits and work setup - Remote role for candidates residing in specified Canadian provinces and territories. - Annual base pay range is CAD $153,000–$213,000, depending on location, experience, and skills. - Benefits include health, dental, and vision coverage, monthly technology and wellness stipends, flexible time off, holidays, and an employee stock purchase plan.
