Role overview
This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing a small interface development team that builds and supports healthcare interoperability solutions. The work centers on HL7 v2.x messaging and FHIR and SMART on FHIR integrations, connecting internal clinical and operational systems with external partners such as electronic medical record platforms, clearinghouses, and laboratory instruments. The position blends direct technical ownership of integration design with formal people management responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Directly manage a small interface development team, including hiring, performance reviews, career development, and day-to-day technical direction - Own the design, build, and ongoing support of HL7 v2.x and FHIR-based integrations, including SMART on FHIR app launch and authorization flows - Lead modernization of existing interface tooling and processes, evaluating opportunities to shorten integration turnaround for new partners - Champion AI-assisted development practices across mapping, validation, documentation, and testing, while preserving rigorous human review for any work involving protected health information - Partner with software development leadership, clinical operations, and business stakeholders to prioritize interface work against organizational goals - Establish and maintain data-quality, security, and compliance standards for all interface work consistent with HIPAA requirements
Requirements
- 5+ years of .NET/C# development experience - 2+ years in a team lead, tech lead, or people-management role with direct reports - Direct hands-on experience with HL7 v2.x messaging and clinical data exchange beyond general API integration - Direct hands-on experience with FHIR and SMART on FHIR, including OAuth2/UDAP authorization flows and CDS Hooks - Track record delivering software in healthcare or another regulated industry - Comfort using AI-assisted development tools in daily work, with interest in extending that practice across a team
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with InterSystems IRIS for Health, the current interface engine, or comparable middleware such as Mirth Connect or Rhapsody - EMR or EHR integration experience - Familiarity with BI and reporting tools such as SSRS or Power BI
Benefits and work setup
