Technical Lead Chief Security Architect / Engineer

Role overview

This senior technical leadership role sets the direction for enterprise cybersecurity architecture and engineering work supporting a large federal agency program. The position serves as the principal authority for translating mission, regulatory, and business requirements into secure, scalable technical solutions while guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams across the full system lifecycle.

Responsibilities

- Provide senior architectural direction and technical leadership for enterprise cybersecurity and engineering efforts across the program environment.

- Act as the principal subject matter expert advising government leadership, program managers, architects, engineers, and technical teams on complex security and technology decisions.

- Translate customer, mission, business, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements into enterprise security designs, engineering requirements, technical strategies, and implementation guidance.

- Lead and coordinate architecture and engineering teams to ensure requirements are clearly scoped, assigned, implemented, and validated.

- Conduct enterprise and system-level security architecture reviews for new, existing, and modernizing systems, including threat, vulnerability, and risk assessments.

- Perform risk and gap analyses against federal policies, standards, and frameworks, and recommend actionable mitigation strategies.

- Coordinate across security, engineering, cloud, DevSecOps, cryptography, AI, and operations functions to maintain architectural consistency.

Requirements

- Minimum of 15 years of enterprise security architecture or information security experience at a large organization or government agency of comparable size and scope.

- Demonstrated expertise in project management, security architecture, and security engineering with the ability to translate customer requirements into team-level work.

- Experience advancing legacy and modern health IT digital architectures spanning cloud, mobile, IoT, APIs, immersive platforms, 5G, post-quantum cryptography, DLP, cryptography, quantum, and AI technologies.

- Strong background in risk management, enterprise architecture tooling, and frameworks such as SABSA.

- Experience performing trade-off analyses across fiscal, schedule, and performance constraints and producing clear architectural documentation, including network topology diagrams.

- Working knowledge of federal security frameworks and standards such as NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP, CIS Controls, and HIPAA.

Nice to have

- Advanced degree in cybersecurity, engineering, computer science, information systems, or a closely related discipline.

- Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP, CISM, CISA, CCISO, CASP+/SecurityX, GCED, GCIH, GSLC, or CCNP Security.

Benefits and work setup

- Salary range of approximately $103,060 to $158,000 USD, with final compensation based on experience and other factors.
