Configuration Manager and Documentation Specialist / Tech Writer

Role overview

This role supports a federal cybersecurity program by combining configuration management with hands-on technical writing. The specialist partners with cybersecurity architects, engineers, project managers, and government stakeholders to produce, organize, and control accurate documentation across the full system lifecycle. It is classified at an Engineer Level 3, handling complex documentation and configuration work in a large-scale enterprise environment focused on strengthening cybersecurity posture.

Responsibilities

- Develop, edit, format, maintain, and publish technical documentation supporting cybersecurity architecture, security engineering, operations, modernization, and program management activities - Translate complex technical concepts, engineering designs, and cybersecurity requirements into clear, concise, audience-appropriate documentation - Create and maintain standard operating procedures, technical procedures, plans, reports, diagrams, templates, configuration documentation, training materials, and test documentation - Review documents for clarity, consistency, accuracy, completeness, grammar, formatting, terminology, and compliance with approved templates and standards - Coordinate with architects, engineers, analysts, developers, project managers, and subject matter experts to ensure documentation accurately reflects technical solutions, configurations, risks, and operational processes - Document configuration and change-management procedures to build an auditable technical record, and maintain documentation through development, operations, maintenance, modernization, transition, and decommissioning

Requirements

- Minimum of five years of IT experience, including at least three years in configuration management or technical editing at a large organization or government agency - A Master's degree in a related IT field such as Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Information Systems may substitute for up to two years of the required experience - Demonstrated expertise in configuration management or change management within IT or software development environments - Experience overseeing configuration items such as hardware, software, documentation, and other deliverables - Working knowledge of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL and hands-on experience maintaining a centralized configuration management database (CMDB) - Understanding of how configuration management fits into the project lifecycle within large enterprise or government environments

Nice to have

- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in an IT-related field such as Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Assurance, or Information Security - Industry certifications such as CASP+ (SecurityX), CCISO, CISA, CISM, CISSP, CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP, GCED, GCIH, GSLC, or CCNP Security
