Senior Systems Software Engineer

Role overview

Own the reliability, automation, and continued evolution of the systems behind a cloud-based hardware design platform. This senior engineering role spans backend services, infrastructure, databases, integrations, observability, and security, with occasional frontend work when needed to resolve issues end to end. Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain core services that support platform reliability, performance, and scalability. - Create automation and internal tooling that reduce operational effort, improve developer workflows, and promote consistent system behavior. - Build integrations with external services for areas such as billing, customer management, authentication, and analytics. - Strengthen monitoring, alerting, and observability so teams can understand system health and investigate incidents effectively. - Architect and operate infrastructure components including distributed services, data pipelines, and deployment automation. - Improve permissions, access flows, auditability, and other security-related system capabilities. - Diagnose and resolve problems across backend, infrastructure, and, when necessary, frontend layers.

Requirements

- Professional experience in systems, platform, infrastructure, or closely related software engineering. - Strong Rust development skills and a sound understanding of systems-level programming. - Experience with transactional and analytical databases, including schema design, migrations, performance tuning, and operational reliability. - Knowledge of API design, service integrations, data flows, and distributed or service-oriented architectures. - Hands-on familiarity with infrastructure as code and containerized deployments. - Ability to work independently, collaborate asynchronously, and make effective technical decisions in a fast-changing environment. - A consistent focus on automation and eliminating recurring operational friction.

- Frontend experience with JavaScript and React for targeted fixes or system-level changes. - Experience integrating billing or customer relationship platforms. - Background building internal tools, permissions systems, or developer productivity infrastructure. - Familiarity with CAD-related workflows or specialized engineering data pipelines.

Benefits and work setup

The role supports remote and local collaboration. The listed compensation range is $145,000–$195,000 USD, with final pay influenced by experience, expertise, market conditions, and geography. Equity and a benefits package are also offered, with details varying by location.
