Role overview A Staff Software Engineer role owning the technical architecture for a provider engagement platform within a healthcare marketplace organization. The work centers on building data-intensive systems that personalize the experience for healthcare providers, integrating ML models from a Data Science team into production surfaces. It is a senior individual contributor position that combines hands-on architecture with cross-team leadership.
Responsibilities - Own architecture for a major domain such as practice intelligence APIs, recommendation serving, orchestration, or AI-assisted management - Design data pipelines that compute engagement signals, aggregate practice profiles, and feed downstream systems - Integrate ML models into production: model serving, feature pipelines, monitoring, and feedback loops - Define APIs and contracts between platform services and product surfaces - Lead complex cross-team projects and drive alignment on technical direction - Make build-vs-buy decisions for infrastructure components such as event systems, feature stores, and in-product messaging platforms - Mentor engineers and raise the bar on system design and operational excellence
Requirements - 8+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership - Experience building data-intensive systems: event pipelines, aggregation services, or real-time data serving - Comfort integrating ML into products, having partnered with Data Science teams to take models from notebook to production - Strong API and data modeling skills with designs that evolve gracefully - Ability to navigate ambiguity by breaking product vision into concrete technical milestones - Excellent communication, including clear design docs and the ability to explain tradeoffs to product partners - Track record of shipping high-quality systems, not just designs
