Remote job
Contract Platform Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A contract platform engineering role embedded with a client team to own cloud access, identity management, and a significant share of their infrastructure-as-code. The work centers on controlling who and what can do what across the cloud estate, standing up newer tooling alongside it, and providing shared infrastructure that many teams depend on.
Responsibilities
- Manage cloud access and identity across the client's estate, ensuring least-privilege and clean governance - Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code with Terraform for provisioning and Flux for GitOps-based delivery into Kubernetes - Operate managed Kubernetes clusters on AWS and ideally GCP, including EKS or GKE - Drive CI/CD pipelines for containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes - Develop internal tooling in Go (or other relevant languages) to support the platform - Champion test-driven engineering, treating untested infrastructure or code as unacceptable
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containerised workloads (Docker, Kubernetes), and AWS, which is mandatory - Experience operating managed Kubernetes such as EKS, GKE, or equivalent - Strong infrastructure-as-code grounding in Terraform and Flux for GitOps delivery - Go experience preferred for building tooling, with any relevant development background a strong plus - Solid engineering practices including testing, reliability, and clean code - Sound judgement in adopting AI and emerging tools to genuinely increase engineering impact
Nice to have
- Experience running workloads across both AWS and GCP - Prior consultancy or client-facing platform engineering work - Familiarity with additional cloud security, IAM, or policy-as-code tooling
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote within the UK on GMT timezone - Initial contract length of three months with potential for extension - B2B contract engagement inside a remote-first engineering culture
