About this role

Role overview This is a staff-level engineering position focused on the architecture and implementation of large-scale distributed systems. The work goes beyond feature delivery: the successful candidate will help refactor complex monolithic components, improve platform reliability for millions of users, and shape long-term engineering standards. The role combines hands-on technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and coaching.

Responsibilities - Lead major code design decisions and develop technical solution designs that support scalable, maintainable systems. - Refactor monolithic components into distributed, reliable architectures while improving operational quality. - Advance CI/CD concepts, tooling, and test-driven development practices to improve the developer experience. - Build and maintain software across a diverse stack that includes C#, .NET, React, AWS, and Kubernetes. - Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and designers through agile delivery, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing. - Mentor and coach other engineers, raising the team's capability in architecture, software craft, and problem-solving.

Requirements - Proven experience delivering and operating complex, large-scale distributed or high-availability systems, with strong engineering fundamentals. - Experience designing and building high-quality software across multiple programming languages and tools, plus the ability to ramp quickly on adjacent technologies. - Demonstrated ability to lead significant code design decisions and contribute to wider technical solutioning. - Hands-on experience with automated testing, refactoring, modern delivery practices, and agile software development. - A track record of mentoring engineers and helping peers grow through supportive coaching and knowledge sharing. - A growth mindset, a strong commitment to technical excellence, and the motivation to solve difficult engineering challenges.

Benefits and work setup Remote work is open to applicants based within Washington State, with Pacific time zone collaboration needed to connect with teams in Australia and New Zealand. Team alignment days and local hub events may provide in-person connection. The position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.

The Washington base salary range is $206,000–$258,000 USD, with individual pay influenced by geography, experience, and relevant skills. Permanent employees may be eligible for an annual bonus and equity in the form of RSUs, with possible performance-based cash or equity incentives depending on role level and company performance. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) match, 21 days of PTO, 10 days of wellbeing leave, five days of additional leave, one volunteer day, 12 paid holidays, and paid parental leave.
