About this role
Role overview A writing tutor role supporting the training of a generative AI model across one or more writing specialties, including creative fiction, game writing, technical writing, nonfiction, and poetry. The position focuses on annotating, critiquing, and refining AI-generated text to elevate its structure, voice, and domain accuracy. It is a remote opportunity that may be structured as full-time, part-time, or contract, with flexible scheduling for contractors.
Responsibilities - Use proprietary internal software to label, annotate, and refine AI-generated text for clarity, structure, engagement, and domain-specific accuracy. - Apply deep specialty expertise to deliver curated data that improves model outputs for specific audiences and use cases. - Collaborate with engineers and other specialists to design tasks that advance the model's writing proficiency. - Help improve annotation tools and workflows for efficiency across the writing team. - Pivot as needed to secondary tasks that strengthen the model in writing-adjacent areas.
Requirements - Proven proficiency in English and verifiable qualification for at least one Writing Specialty (creative fiction, game writing, technical writing, nonfiction, or poetry). - Ability to critique and refine text for readability, logical flow, grammar, consistency, style, creativity, and reader immersion. - Strong attention to detail, with experience using reference materials and style guides for style-adherent annotations. - Flawless grammar, spelling, clarity, and precision. - Superlative communication, interpersonal, analytical, and editorial skills. - Commitment to developing AI that produces expert-level writing, plus the adaptability to meet shifting deadlines.
Nice to have - Familiarity with AI tools or prompt engineering workflows. - Ability to teach or critique writing collaboratively with both technical and non-technical teammates. - Comfort with remote work tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, and Notion.
Benefits and work setup - Remote work from any eligible location, subject to legal eligibility and time-zone fit; US-based candidates cannot be hired in Wyoming or Illinois, and visa sponsorship is not available. - Personal device must be a Chromebook, a Mac running macOS 11.0 or later, or a Windows 10 or later machine. - US hourly rate of $35 to $75 depending on subspecialty, experience, and qualifications; benefits for eligible US employees include health insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave. - Contractor roles typically average around 10 hours per week with flexible scheduling and no fixed hour commitments.
